The Phoenician Resort has three 9-hole courses, the Canyon, Desert and Oasis. The Canyon is the newest course which plays against the contours of Camelback Mountain. The older Desert course has a more traditional design with rolling fairways and smaller greens. Lastly, the Oasis course has tree lined fairways with a lot more water hazards than the other two courses.

The master-planned community of McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale has two beautiful 18-hole courses (Palm and Pine). The Palm course has water hazards that affect play on ten holes. The signature hole on the Palm course is number 9, a 409 yard par 4 that features a double fairway approach to the green. The Pine course has tighter fairways with water only affecting five holes. The signature hole on the Pine course is #15, a long par 4 that has a peninsula green encircled by water on the front and sides.

Designed by Tom Fazio in 1995, Grayhawk has two challenging 18-hole courses (Raptor and Talon). The fairways have tifdwalf grass with desert landscaping and elevated greens. Grayhawk is infamous for hosting the Anderson Consulting Championship, which is considered to be the “world’s richest tournament.”

This course is located on the Salt River Indian Community near Indian Bend and the Loop 101. Talking Stick features two 18-hole courses (the North and South course). The North course has very few trees with wide-open fairways and greens. The South course is lined with cottonwood trees and has numerous finger-shaped bunkers.

Located at the foothills of McDowell Mountain, DC Ranch is an 18-hole desert-style course. The fairways are relatively flat, however the greens are small and very undulating. The signature hole at DC Ranch is #13. It is a 146 yard par 3 that requires a tee shot onto an elevated green that is carved out of the McDowell Mountains.

Kierland features three nine hole courses that can be played in any 18-hole combination. These courses are: Acacia, Mesquite and Ironwood. You can expect many uneven lies due to the nearly eighty feet of elevation change throughout the courses. The most challenging hole is number 9 on the Mesquite. It is a 425 yard par 4 that requires an approach shot onto a green that is guarded by five bunkers and a lake.
