The History of Paradise Valley, Arizona
In the 1880's, the Rio Verde Canal Company came up with an idea to turn the desert land west of Scottsdale into a farming section. The company named this area Paradise Valley, because of the abundance of wildflowers found growing throughout. Although, their idea never came to pass the name Paradise Valley stuck. After while, the city of Phoenix began to grow and prosper. Some people decided that Paradise Valley would be perfect for new homes. Homes began to be built, along with some high-end resorts. In 1961, Paradise Valley was incorporated.
Paradise Valley Outdoor Recreation
Centrally located to the northeast of downtown Phoenix, Paradise Valley is between two mountains: Mummy Mountain and Cam Mummy Mountain is protected from development and use by the Mummy Mountain Preserve, but Camelback Mountain boasts hiking trails to its summit at 2,704 feet. There, hikers are rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of the Valley. The 75.8-acre mountain park is also home to a wealth of Sonoran Desert flora and fauna, including cactus, snakes and lizards.
