Lake Havasu City is located on the eastern shore of Lake Havasu, which is on the Colorado River, bordering California and Arizona. Founded in 1964, and incorporated in 1978, Lake Havasu City’s greatest attraction is the world-famous London Bridge, which opened in 1971, after being transported across continents, and reconstructed. Adjacent to the Bridge is an English Village, and a resort development of restaurants, shops and hotels. Lake Havasu City attracts one million visitors annually, contributing $100 million dollars to the city coffers each year.

The tourism industry has the most significant impact on the local economy, but various local companies contribute as well. The largest U.S. independent manufacturer of plastic houseware products, Sterlite Corporation, calls Lake Havasu City “home”, employing more than 400 people in their almost half-million square foot facility. Also, a number of high-performance and leisure craft boat manufacturers have facilities in the area. A few of the boating “icons”, Kawasaki and Yamaha have research and development operations in the community.

About a three-and-a-half to four hour drive from Phoenix, Lake Havasu City is gaining popularity with second-home owners. Although often as warm in the summer as in the Phoenix area, the cool waters of the Lake and River create a nice weekend getaway. The one time you may want to avoid the area is during Spring Breaks, when high-schoolers and college students swarm into the Lake Havasu community, for all-out partying!
